2013, fritted glass, acrylic, ink, LED light source

146 x 48 in. and 16 x 227 in.

Permanent installation: Trinity University, Center for Sciences and Innovation, San Antonio, Texas

The colors embedded in these auto-animating panels are drawn from Texas native wildflowers: Lupinus texensis and Gaillardia pulchella. The artist extracted single points of color from photographs of the flowers to build the palettes for the artwork. The assembly of each frame includes a layer of ceramic fritted glass, a repeating pattern of thin, colored lines, a light diffusion layer, and an LED light source. The precise relationship between the frequency of the printed colors and the fritted lines on the glass layer produces a color-shifting effect as the viewer moves past the works.
